WE ARE UPSIDE DOWN

A photographic exploration of how Covid-19 (Corona Virus) has affected society through a surreal lens. By manipulating everyday scenes of various urban landscapes, the mundane is infiltrated by a sense of uncanny with the addition of upside-down subjects going about their business. The images were taken from an archive of everyday strolls in the Tokyo and Saitama prefectures in Japan. Covid-19 has drastically changed our understanding of modern-day society forcing governments to deal with the pandemic in strikingly different executions with varied results. Japan has taken on a relatively slow lockdown process compared to the rest of the world. These images are an attempt to depict the slow infiltration of change.
